A small high growth financial services firm with a turnover £4m and a headcount of 2.

The Brief

The business had reached a point where in order for continued growth to occur and for the two founders of the business to achieve a better work life balance a third head was needed to join the team. The two founders were unsure about the kind of individual to bring onboard and spoke to Emma to discuss potential options. Originally, they wanted someone with extensive expertise in this area but were nervous about potential cost of hire and also of a lack of opportunity to progress within the business.

Process and Aftercare

Emma suggested hiring, instead, someone who had all of the potential to be a brilliant and keen sales person but who was very early on in their career that they could develop and grow to be a part of their business. Initially the founders were nervous about training and developing someone so junior and with so little proven experience. However, Emma shortlisted 3 individuals of this profile who the founders met with. They were impressed with the calibre of individual at this level and so offered the job which was accepted after a two stage interview process. Emma provided a list of questions and risk areas to look out for and probe further on, so that the founders were able to interview with ease and identify the best person for them.   Following from this Emma also provided extensive onboarding, development plans and milestones for the individual so that they were able to recognise and reward her progress.
