Wellbeing in the Workplace
This speaks right to the heart of our ethos here at Inclusive and is one of the most crucial ways that you can retain the talent that you have in your business: by looking after the wellbeing of your colleagues.
The more that employers look after the wellbeing of their employees the more likely they are to attract the best talent and, crucially, retain them.
‘Mental health is defined as a state of wellbeing in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community
Mental Health – A source of wellbeing’ -‐ World Health Organisation
Many of us are feeling more stressed, anxious and overwhelmed than ever before. Our normal coping mechanisms perhaps aren’t meeting our needs and we feel as though we are in survival mode every day.
When we are operating with high levels of arousal in our environment – i.e. perhaps like now when we have increased screen time, constantly fluctuating and new challenges, and general baseline negative noise from news sources – even the most seemingly simple of tasks become very difficult.
With the impact of Covid-19 keenly felt across the globe never has there been a greater need to manage and look after our mental health and wellbeing.
Anxiety is defined as ‘Worry that has exceeded its usefulness as a motivating force and become counterproductive and debilitating. (Source: The British Journal of Psychiatry 2020).
